I agree, i don't like the idea of killing as a sport. I am glad this isn't real! Thanks to the writer of that post, we now have a loving role model!

Re: Hunger is Not a Game

I work for World Wide Village and hunger is a major issue for us. My living is about helping impoverished families in Haiti, and I have held severely malnourished children in my arms, and I want to thank you for your reminder that the story is about us and our world. I have not read the books, but have seen the movie. I wasn't going to take my 11-year-old because I thought it might be too traumtic, but I plan to take her now.

As the Millenium Develop Goals originally postulated, it would only take .7 percent of the world's wealth being directed toward eradicating extreme poverty each year to accomplish the goal in less than a generation. Hopefully the books and movie will wake a few more people up and motivate them to take action.

Re: Hunger is Not a Game

This is a wonderful post. I agree with everything you've said. I'm a huge fan of the series - I've read it three times as well - and I believe that not only does it help youth to understand the problems you mentioned, but it also helps them understand that revolution is possible. It is important for young people to know that if things are wrong, they have an opportunity to stand up and fight it; even in the small ways that Katniss did without even knowing. Also, it's great to have such a positive female role model in anything these days!

Re: Meet Our Staff: A Closing Interview with AJ Renold as He Prepares to Leave Tanzania

Sonja, thank you and hope that we meet again in the future!
AJ, you have the determination, the tools, and the humility to succeed in just about anything you do. I'm so glad you were able to work in Opportunity's Tanzania office during a time of transition, and I'm sure you will continue to thrive as you move on to your next steps.

Re: Meet Our Staff: A Closing Interview with AJ Renold as He Prepares to Leave Tanzania

GOOD DAY

Re: "Building Social Business" with Muhammad Yunus

@Luis ...hey i dont know abt only social business entrepreneurs interacting....but there are online communities where one finds future entrepreneurs sharing and exchanging ideas like thestartupcentre.com

Re: First Day of School in Nicaragua

Fantastic!

Re: What We’re Reading: A Microfinance, Poverty, Empowerment Reading List

Toxic Charity by Robert Lupton and When Helping Hurts by Corbertt/Fikkert would be good additions to the list.

Re: What We’re Reading: A Microfinance, Poverty, Empowerment Reading List

I've read Banker to the Poor, and The Hole in Our Gospel, currently reading Half the Sky, then moving on to UnPoverty. I'll get through them all eventually!

Re: Christmas Blessings from Opportunity Colombia

This is a wonderful holiday message! What a lot of work and planning went into the making of it - and a lot of love! Thank you so much!
Kathy

Re: Christmas Blessings from Opportunity Colombia

Bravo to Maestro Jim Frantz and OILA staff!
